Emilio Fonseca’s camera delves into the Galician-Portuguese mountains, tracking images and absences of the native Iberian wolf. This film-essay searches justice and investigates the story of a relationship charged with subjugation and extermination, creating simulacrum images of the wild natural. Rather an anti-documentary, Salvaxe, Salvaxe offers us wolves that look at the camera terrified and humans that howl, where all creatures leave traces. Fonseca’s is a fascinating work using new and unconventional ways to explore the relationship between humans and non-humans.
