Sixteen year-old Lola is determined and studying hard in the hope of spending a semester in Germany. Despite her enthusiasm, her family faces significant challenges: her older sister’s mental illness and financial difficulties, making them reluctant to support her plans. Maria Zanetti’s debut feature film is a masterful immersion in a teenager’s world: Lola’s struggles with school, family, friends, ambitions and love. Moving and light at the same time, Zanetti’s film also offers a profound exploration of mental illness from the perspective of a younger sister who both admires and realizes she cannot rely on her sibling as a role model.
