Striker, captain, and later President of Real Madrid FC during its most decorated era, the legend of Santiago Bernabéu lives on to this day in the hallowed halls of its stadium, named in his honour. Through extensive archival material and passionate, revealing interviews, Salazar-Simpson's warm-hearted documentary illustrates his revolutionary approach to the transfer market, instrumental role in the creation of the UEFA Champions League (which Madrid have now won a record 13 times), infamous dressing-room pep-talks (nicknamed 'santiaguinas'), and matchless ability to build a winning machine on the pitch. Bringing some of Madrid's most legendary names to the club, including Molowny, Muñoz, Puskás, and Di Stéfano, Bernabéu masterminded an unprecedented streak of 5 consecutive European cups (1955-1960) and, later, 5 consecutive La Liga crowns (1960-1965). Filled with tender nostalgia and profound respect for a man who, at the time of his death in 1978, had been President for 35 years, Bernabéu is a must-see for fans of Real Madrid, the beautiful game, and of sport in general, with all its matchless pain and glory.
